Maakulati: Swahili Breakfast at New Island Dishes

5 (100%) 1 vote

It’s not breakfast in Mombasa without a Swahili breakfast, with mahambri, viazi vya karai, mbaazi in the menu.  I was looking into a place I could have a good breakfast and found New Island dishes in old town.  They had a Swahili breakfast platter that included various coastal breakfast meals, including Mahambri and mbaazi, viazi karai and ukwaju, sambusa and Mkate wa mofa with Honey and a banana to balance out the meals. This was regular/medium platter; the premium includes fish of the day. The full breakfast includes a small pot of tea (Black/Milk).

New island dishes has been in operation for 8 months, located on Kibokoni road. They offer full Swahili and African cuisine.

Ambiance: Coastal décor

Service: Fast

Waiting time: 5-10 minutes depending on the meals

Toilet: Available

Parking:  No parking (public street parking subject to availability)

Breakfast Platter: kshs 250 (Medium/Regular)

The platter was just right, enough to sample the different snacks, I enjoyed Mkate wa Mofa with honey. The taste balanced each other perfectly. All the meals were well cooked with a homemade feeling. Making you feel like you are right at home enjoying your scrumptious breakfast.
