The Fort Seafood and Pizzeria is a restaurant located adjacent to the historical Fort Jesus on Nkrumah Road. The restaurant identifies itself as a seafood and pizza restaurant but it has much more to offer. The menu items range from classic Swahili dishes to Indian, to salads and pasta. It also offers a wide array of drink from hot coffee to smoothies, juices and cocktails (do try the tamarind juice, it’s my favourite so far!) The Fort stands out in the restaurant scene in Mombasa being that it is locally owned and uses locally sourced produce for the ingredients.
The building that The Fort is in is especially unique as it was built in 1897 for Queen Victoria for her diamond jubilee. It was the building that was used for the baraza which was held by the leaders of Mombasa to discuss local and political matters. Upon entering the restaurant, you can immediately see the Swahili influence. It is tastefully decorated and holds true to the Swahili culture. White walls contrasted by dark wooden chairs and the walls are ornamented with vintage photographs of Mombasa, women and royal figures of the coast.
There’s a good variety in the restaurant and I especially love their pizzas and pasta. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and if you have a specific request the staff are attentive and ready to serve the guests with smiles. The ambience of The Fort is calming and serene with a pleasant view of Fort Jesus from the windows. The price range of the menu items goes from 350 KSH to 2000 KSH. The wide array of drinks from tea to coffee makes for a pleasant place to grab a drink and a snack with a friend to catch up. Support local business and drop by The Fort for a delicious lunch or dinner or just a scenic place to spend some time with an old friend. The restaurant closes Monday but is open all the other days so stop by anytime. For any further information call: 0722776399
